A FATHER’S DAY BLESSING
May I be a man of dust and earth and Eden
Who walks with the Maker and honors what is made
A man of wildness, authority and grit
Who names, releases and blesses without fear
May I be a boy of curiosity and wonder and innocence
Who climbs trees and bathes in mud
A boy of laughter, adventure and swordplay
Who knows fun, is tested, and prevails without shame
May I be a man of worship and contrition and passion
Who acts justly, loves mercy and walks humbly
A man of rightness, righteousness and right-making
Who sacrifices, honors and kneels without reserve
May I be a man of glory and beauty and desire
Who reflects the Creator with ruggedness and fierceness
A man of thunder, rain and renewal
Who replenishes, exposes and inspires without restraint
May I be a man of knowledge and wisdom and insight
Who learns with veracity, breadth and reflection
A man of books, conversation and curiosity
Who listens, ingests and applies without delay
May I be a son of honor and respect and truth
Who lives into the story of my birth
A son of purpose, worthiness and grace
Who embraces, exceeds and extends the legacy without anger
May I be a brother of protection and thoughtfulness and creativity
Who serves sister and neighbor and Kingdom
A brother of battle, sacrifice and service
Who exchanges life for freedom and sacrifices without hesitation
May I be a father of inspiration and strength and creativity
Who does not inflame or destroy or ignore
A father of boundary, liberty and dreams
Who creates fertile soil for life and imagination without ceasing
May I be a husband of character and integrity and esteem
Who celebrates his bride with selfless love
A husband of desire, courage and commitment
Who pursues with tenacity and passion without destruction
May I be a priest of story and memory and faith
Who reminds of stone altars and God’s faithfulness
A priest of worship, ritual and rhythm
Who establishes allegiance and Relationship without resignation
May I be a prophet of hope and truth and conviction
Who sees the future bright and beautiful
A prophet of grace, mercy and Truth
Who corrects gently, leads honestly and holds hope without apology
May I be a king of love and shalom and domain
Who establishes Kingdom and provides borders
A king of playfulness, authority and affection
Who reflects God’s heart through incarnation without hesitation
May I be such a man
May I be such a boy
May I be such a son
May I be such a brother
May I be such a father
May I be such a husband
May I be such a priest
May I be such a prophet
May I be such a king
For that is the wonder of your creation in me.
